Teacher of Record, PFT Building/Union Representative, AVID Site Coordinator/ Elective Teacher, Grade Group Leader, Math Teacher Leader, and Mentally Gifted Teacher
9/2000 - Present Elementary School Teacher, Philadelphia, PA
- I was nominated and elected by my colleagues to serve as the Building/Union Representative for the Philadelphia Federation of Teachers. I served in that capacity for four years. As the Representative for Morrison staff, I facilitated monthly meetings with the staff and follow-up meetings with administration to address union issues and information unique to our building. I created and distributed monthly newsletters to ensure PFT members were updated with union information. I also represented PFT members in conferences with administration.
- I am currently serving as the Mentally Gifted Teacher, the Mathematics Teacher of record for grade 6 and the Sixth Grade Chair Person. I have spent the bulk of my career teaching middle year mathematics. As a Mathematics teacher, I have helped students make notable gains on standardized assessments. In 2014 I taught writing to students in grades K – 8. My administrator created and appointed me to that position to have me implement AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination college preparatory program) strategies to our community of learners. For the past several years, I was the AVID Site Coordinator and Elective Teacher. As a result of me maintaining current student/teacher artifacts and providing up-to-date data, Morrison was able to become an AVID certified school. I have also prepared and facilitated professional development at Morrison for the past five years to ensure that my colleagues were thoroughly prepared to implement current best practices. As a teacher I have also hosted several student teachers from Temple University and the Urban Seminar. I served as the Seventh Grade Chair Person. As the Chair Person of my grade group, I served as the liaison between the principal and the seventh grade team. I scheduled, planned and organized meetings, conferences, assemblies, after school programs and trips involving parents, students, and teachers daily. Since January of 2000, I have been employed by the School District of Philadelphia. I have taught every grade from K - 8. My major responsibilities involve planning and implementing rigorous lesson that are aligned to the Core Curriculum. I am also responsible for preparing students to perform with proficiency in the various content areas and moreover on standardized assessments. I have also taught Intervention Math Clubs, Saturday School, Power Hour, and Summer Institutes.
